AI Is Reshaping Security: Insights from InnoSec 2025

During the Amazon Security & SANS Institute InnoSec 2025 event I joined a panel on AI in digital forensics and incident response, discussing how AI is transforming security and why human–AI collaboration matters.

AI Is Reshaping Security: Insights from InnoSec 2025

Inside the InnoSec 2025 Panel

AI is no longer “coming” to security—it’s already reshaping it.

At the Amazon Security & SANS Institute InnoSec 2025 event last week, I had the privilege of joining Tim Vidas, Dimple Vedi, GCIA, and Jennifer Paz for a panel on AI in Digital Forensics & Incident Response.

How AI Is Changing DFIR

We discussed how Amazon’s Incident Response, Security Operations and Digital Forensics teams are using AI to change the way investigations unfold. From streamlining evidence analysis to enhancing detection signals, AI isn’t just mimicking processes faster—it’s enabling new levels of precision and scale.

Sharing lessons from Amazon’s DFIR and SOC teams

One key theme: the security landscape isn’t static. As AI evolves from today’s #GenAI to tomorrow’s #AgenticAI, threats evolve in parallel. That means our response must be equally adaptive. The panel emphasized the balance between human expertise and AI‑driven augmentation—leveraging machines where they excel while keeping human judgment at the core.

Gratitude for the Community

Huge shoutouts must go to Sharifa Bernard for organizing and planning the event, Katie Zurowski for moderating our panel, Rob T. Lee for his insight and speaking to Amazonians about SANS Digital Forensics and Incident Response and their landscapes into AI, and also Emily Odom, CISSP, for her amazing keynote on her experience encountering cyber threats during her time at the FBI. It was very informative!

Looking Ahead

Events like this remind me that innovation in security is as much about collaboration as it is about technology. The conversations at #HQ2 reinforced the need for practitioners, leaders and technologists to not just adopt AI tools but to think critically about how they integrate them to solve real‑world challenges.

What role do you think AI should play in the future of incident response—assistant, partner or decision‑maker?

A Fulfilling Q2: From Soldiering to Soldering

Reflecting on a whirlwind Q2, I closed out my command season in the Army Reserve, expanded our SOC teams at AWS and mentored future leaders—proving that leadership spans both military and tech arenas.
