A Fulfilling Q2: From Soldiering to Soldering
Reflecting on a whirlwind Q2, I closed out my command season in the Army Reserve, expanded our SOC teams at AWS and mentored future leaders—proving that leadership spans both military and tech arenas.

Closing a Command Season
What a whirlwind Q2 has been! It’s hard to believe how quickly time flies when you’re passionate about what you do.

Q2 2025 marked a significant milestone as I completed my command season, proudly handing over the reins of a U.S. Army Reserve cybersecurity detachment. For 14 years in the Army Reserve—most recently as a Commander—it’s been an immense privilege to lead, protect and mentor soldiers. Ensuring their readiness, safety and well‑being amidst the ever‑evolving cyber threat landscape has been both a great responsibility and a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by all who serve. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved together. Special shout‑out to my wife Tshai Banks for her unwavering support during the late‑night meetings, calls and missions.

Scaling the AWS SOC
Meanwhile on the civilian front, it’s been a period of growth and development at AWS in the Security Operations Center (SOC)! I’ve been focused on hiring and expanding my team, bringing in and developing existing top‑tier talent to tackle new challenges in security and even artificial intelligence (AI). If you’re passionate about engineering leadership or individual opportunities in security and are looking for opportunities around the globe, I encourage you to explore Amazon jobs or feel free to reach out directly.

Mentoring and Hands-On Moments
I also had the fantastic opportunity to lead a couple of leadership and mentoring workshops at our internal Amazon Security conferences. It’s always rewarding to share insights and foster growth within our communities. And, in a fun blast from the past, at the conference I even got to dust off my soldering skills! AWS and Amazon is an incredible dynamic place and it’s always Day 1!

Looking Toward Q3
Feeling incredibly grateful for these experiences and the opportunities to lead and learn. Here’s to an equally productive Q3!
